Moon Waves is owned and run by Akhilesh, known as Akhi, a local instructor whose own name fronts the school. It is accredited by the Surfing Federation of India. The base is on North Cliff Road near Kunnuvila temple in Kurakkanni, about a kilometre from Varkala railway station. Lessons target beginners, with boards available to rent; reviewers describe groups of roughly four to ten with individual coaching time across multi-day courses. Akhi also arranges snorkelling, fishing, trekking and beach BBQs.
