Manikandan Desappan — "Appu" — is a local from the fishing village, hooked since catching his first wave in 2005 and now one of India's most decorated competitors, with fifteen podium finishes across national and international events. ISA Level 1 and 2 certified in coaching and judging, he sits on the SFI's technical committee for under-16 athlete development and built the academy to grow the next generation of Indian surfers.
